First it’s important to know how your skin tans, right? Tanning is your body’s natural defense against burning. When your skin is exposed to UV light, the production of melanin in your skin is increased. The sun creates two types of UV light: UVA and UVB. UVA oxidizes the existing melanin, the browning pigment that tans the skin. UVB triggers the production of additional melanin in the skin. Both UVA and UVB are needed for a balanced tan. At New Image Tanningstate-of-the-art tanning equipment is designed to replicate the UVA and UVB produced by the sun, while allowing you to control your exposure. So if you have a light complexion, always start slow with your tanning regiment to avoid burning. By slowly increasing your exposure, you will minimize the risk of burning and develop a beautiful natural tan. Also, only tan once in a 24-hour period to avoid overexposure.

It is State Law in North Dakota.

  • Shower and exfoliate.

  • Moisturize regularly, as hydrated skin will hold a better tan.

  • Remove makeup.

  • Avoid wearing deodorant or perfume.

  • Remove watches and jewelry to avoid unsightly tan lines!

  • If you take medications, talk to your doctor to be sure your medication isn’t photosensitive (meaning it can be weakened or otherwise affected by UV exposure).

  • Apply tanning lotion immediately before your session. Never use outdoor tanning lotion or oils in the beds, as they are not designed for indoor tanning and will harm the acrylic.

  • Apply SPF to tattoos to avoid fading. Many of our Premium Lotions and Bronzers have Tattoo Protection.

  • Federal and state laws require you to use protective eyewear. Remember to bring a pair every time you come to tan. If you forget, you will be required to purchase new eyewear before we can allow you to tan.

  • If you choose to tan in the buff, be careful about areas not accustomed to sunlight. Cover sensitive areas with a towel or clothing for the first session and build up tolerance for your next visit.

  • Stop tanning if your skin starts to sting or tingle, which can indicate overexposure to UV rays.

We at New Image Tanning always recommend using a good moisturizer after tanning and showering. We stock premium skin maximizers and also skin aftercare products. These are available to you upon request. For your Best Tan Results, wait a minimum of one to five hours before showering. You will be surprised and pleased with the results.

Now have fun and enjoy your tanning experience! Thank you.
